Bike Share

The Golden Community bike share is now live!

The premise of the bike share is to use the bike and return it to either (currently) the campground or spirit square. If you do that within the first 30mins, your ride is free. Return the bike as soon as you can. Please note on the waiver that it is provincial regulation that all cyclists must wear a helmet, the town and any entities connected with the golden community bike share are not responsible for you. Helmets are provided at the Campground.

There is also a rental agreement that you need to fill out. If your looking for a daily rental, head to either The Whistle stop cafe (Campground) or to Dreamcatcher Hostel. For seasonal and monthly passes please head to the Town of Golden office.

The cost for the rental is either $10/per day, Monthly for $35 or seasonal (Spring-Fall) for $60.

Background: Golden Community Bike Share
The Town of Golden and its partners are proud to announce that the Golden Community Bike Share will launch on May 26th

The goals of the program are to promote Active Transportation and a healthy life .
style, reduce green house gas emissions from the use of cars and reduce bike theft.
“A dedicated group of active transportation advocates envisioned having a community bike
share and this innovative program is a perfect fit for the Resort Municipality Initiative funding,” says Lisa Reinders, Manager of Leisure Services for the Town of Golden. “The committee, including myself, is
excited about having a bike share program in our community.”

The Golden Community Bike Share (GCBS) features 15 Sahara Gold coloured bikes and 2 Cycle Stations (racks and kiosks) located at the Golden Municipal Campground and the Spirit Square.
Members will be able to access a bike during the spring and summer months with a swipe card by signing up for a membership.

Golden is the first community in British Columbia to have a third generation bike share system, Qi Cycle Station is designed by engineers at Sandvault Group Global Solutions (SGGS) in Richmond, BC.
Derek Moenick, representative for Sandvault Group, “says he is proud to bring this system to Golden”. These Cycle Stations will keep bikes locked 24hrs a day. Members who receive a swipe card can access these bikes by inserting their card, selecting a bike, and riding away. Once a member is done their ride, they can return the bike back to the location they initially selected or place the bike in another Cycle Station at a different location.

These Cycle Stations will provide coordinators and managers of the program with information in regards to: which member has accessed a bike and when; how long they have had the bike for; when the bike was returned.

The Kona Africa Three bike, featured in the program, is a three speed bike with a basket and rack. The bike is part of the Bikes for Africa Program created by Kona to provide transportation to medical professionals in rural Africa. For every two Kona Africa Three bikes that are purchased, one goes to Africa. Last fall representatives from Kona brought over 600 bikes to Africa, which Golden contributed to by purchasing these bikes for the GCBS.

The GCBS will officially launch on May 26th.
